WALKING & WILDLIFE SAFARI

Tanzania's rich diversity will come to life on this intimate journey of a lifetime. From the magic of the vast plains of the Serengeti to the mystical Ngorongoro Crater and highlands to the world-famous Mara River, you will be in the heart of one of Africa's richest wildlife reserves. This is where the magic happens!

We'll start at the World Heritage site, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with game drives within the crater and a fantastic walk on the rim where you can view BOTH the crater and the Serengeti simultaneously.

We'll explore the Eastern Serengeti to enjoy the results of a twenty-year project to restore the cheetah habitat, which has been wildly successful.

The Northern Serengeti is where the Mara River hippos wallow, and huge herds of wildebeest, antelope, and zebra make their way north. Along with them come the elephants and big cats prowl: Lion, leopard, and cheetah are on the hunt.

There is an overwhelming amount of wildlife, and optional walks and hikes take you through some of the most beautiful places on the Serengeti.

Join Walking Connection Adventure Specialist Sylvia Bernardi on this small-group safari. Together with husband Frank, they'll open the door to this natural world and bring you uniquely global perspectives.

  • Overland journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Crater. (3-Nights: Entamanu Private Camp).

  • Safari in the Crater, along with its 25,000 animals. Maasai village visit & optional afternoon walk.

  • Safari - Daily Game Drives in the Eastern Serengeti. 3-Nights Olmara Camp.

  • Safari - Nature will likely unfold many surprises as you head north toward the Great Migration.* (3-Nights Lamai Serengeti)

  • Safari - Daily Game Drives in one of the richest big-game wildlife areas on Earth.

DAY ONE- Welcome to Arusha, Tanzania

The quaint lodge is situated at the base of Mt. Meru, with views of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. Lake Duluti Lodge is a fine countryside retreat within a coffee estate that perfectly combines an authentic African rural setting with outstanding amenities and service. Though we are only here for a short duration, the welcoming hospitality and warm smiles are your introduction to warm African hospitality.

DAY TWO- Head To The Highlands

Transfer by vehicle to the highlands with a full day of adventure along the way. Travel on through the rich Karatu farm country, reaching the forest that welcomes you to the highlands of Ngorongoro Conservation Area.  Catch your first glimpse of the crater as you make your way to the beautifully constructed and inspired camp. B,L,D

DAY THREE- Ngorongoro Crater - Wildlife & Walking

The Ngorongoro Crater is still a lambent lost world of wildlife, giving us flashes of how the first humans must have experienced it. As the sun rises over the perfect bowl of the Crater you will descend for a morning game drive onto the caldera’s floor which over 25,000 wild creatures call home.

Return to the rim in the early afternoon for a relaxed "bush" lunch overlooking the Crater. After lunch, you will have the option to drive or walk back to camp. B,L,D

DAY FOUR- Ngorongoro Crater - Exploring The Rim

Guided by the wisdom of a local Maasai guide, take a walk (or drive) to a local Boma (Maasai village). This experience is far from the usual tourist trails, offering a genuine connection to the land and its people.  You'll meander to the end of the gulley that takes you to the Crater rim, and there's little that can prepare you for the awaited vista. Entamanu is a rare opportunity to explore a side of Africa few see. B,L,D

DAYS FIVE, SIX & SEVEN - The Eastern Serengeti - Safari

Today, an exciting drive to the far eastern plains of the Serengeti, a remote and wildlife-filled pocket of the savannah. This is where your dream of wild Africa comes alive. You will be headed to an area that teems with lions, cheetahs roaming, and large packs of hyenas and leopards confidently striding through their ranges.

Because it was inaccessible for many years, you are away from the busy safari transit routes. With few camps nearby, you have a sense that you have Africa all to yourself. B,L,D Daily

DAYS EIGHT, NINE & TEN- The Northern Serengeti - Safari

Today will be an adventure as you travel by vehicle through the short grass plains to your next camp, with a picnic along the way. Nature will likely unfold many surprises as you head north. And if you are fortunate, the migration may reveal itself as the wildebeest make their way south.

Explore by safari vehicle to experience the intricacies of the area, both south of the hippo-filled Mara River and (river permitting) to the north, where you can go on a walking safari.

And, of course, with a location like this, one of the best ways to take in the Serengeti is literally from the expansive veranda of your room, tucked away among the red rocks of the kopje. B,L,D Daily

DAY ELEVEN- Oh No It's Time To Go!

After lunch depart with a game drive to the Kogatende airstrip. Return flight to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for your evening flight back to the USA. B,L

What's Included?

Pre-Adventure
We'll help you get ready. Walking Connection Adventure Specialists will help you plan and prepare for an amazing journey. We can make pre and post-stays anywhere in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya or the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa. We provide a detailed “Know Before You Go” information including recommended website, reading lists, packing list, what to bring, weather, and more. Plus, we're always available to answer questions by email, voice, text or WhatsApp.

Private Accommodations

Four and Five Star accommodations await you. Though the star system of rating hotels is always subjective, and doesn't accurately relate or apply to remote safari accommodations, our private lodges and camp's warmth and welcoming hospitality make them the best of the best. Double occupancy (two beds) is standard, but Kings are available, and single travelers are always welcome. All come with world-class amenities and services.

Food & Beverage
When you think of African cuisine, think of traditional Western European and Asian cuisines with a local flair. Breakfast is hearty; lunch could be a safari picnic engulfed by meandering wildebeest or a relaxing by-the-pool affair. Sundowners on a ridgeline as the sun sets over the distant savannah with the lone acacia tree, and dinners are chef-prepared masterpieces. Always sumptuous, and the only way to go hungry here is to try. House drinks are included while on Safari.

Hosted, Guided Adventures and Walks
Professionally, safety-accredited guides bring the Serengeti and its culture to life. Mostly Maasai, they are full-time residents with a passion for sharing their lives and the places where they live. With no more than six in a safari vehicle, there is space to move and relax as you experience a "safari massage" during our game drives. Our safari walks are about experiencing the smaller wildlife and culture of the savannah. They are always at your choice. Sylvia Bernard, Adventure Specialist with the Walking Connection and husband Frank, are your hosts throughout.

Safari Casual - Traveling Light - Photography

Preparing for your adventure is the key to a successful holiday. Our packing list and tips will help you bring what you need and as importantly, leave behind what you don't. Many guests memorialize their safari experience with pictures along the way. We'll set up an exclusive WhatsApp group where we share information and you can share your images and get questions answered along the way.
