8 or 10-Day Signature Walking Adventure

Aug. 24/26 - Sept. 2, 2027

Journey to the Heart of the Andes Mountains

Beyond Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu may be the headline, but it is not the whole story.

Peru reveals itself gradually, layered in the ingredients piled high in a Lima market, the ancient terraces carved into the Andes, the water still flowing through the streets of an Inca town, and the traditions preserved by Quechua families who have lived in these mountains for generations.

Our journey begins in Lima, one of South America’s great culinary capitals, where we explore the city through its food, art, architecture, and people. From there, we fly into the Andes and descend into the Sacred Valley. â€‹We explore the agricultural terraces of Moray, walk through highland farms to Maras, visit salt ponds still worked by local families, and spend time in a Quechua community. In Ollantaytambo, we look beyond the archaeological ruins and walk through one of the world’s last continuously inhabited Inca towns.

Then comes Machu Picchu. Those prepared for the challenge will follow the Inca Trail from Km 104, passing Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna before arriving through the Sun Gate. It is a demanding day, but the reward is extraordinary: your first view of Machu Picchu from above, reached on foot as travelers have done for centuries. The following morning, we return with our guide to explore the citadel more deeply.

This is not simply a visit to Machu Picchu. It is a journey into one of the world’s great civilizations, told through its landscapes, food, living communities, and the people who continue to carry its traditions forward.

A Signature Adventure

We believe the best way to know a place is to walk it—slowly, thoughtfully, and with time to connect. We invite you to experience Peru in the Walking Connection tradition: with open hearts, curious minds, and an appreciation for the stories that shape its people and places.

Lima to the Sacred Valley to Cusco to Machu Picchu

This adventure offers a rare view of both Peru and its people. The Andes may be seen by every traveler, but the lives shaped by these mountains rarely come into such clear focus. Local professional guides and communication specialists bring each place to life through its stories, culture, colors, and flavors.

Stays of Distinction

Our accommodations are part of the journey: a restored mansion in Lima’s Barranco district, a renowned exploration lodge in the Sacred Valley, a cloud-forest retreat surrounded by orchids and hummingbirds at Machu Picchu Pueblo, and an intimate colonial property in Cusco’s artisan quarter.

Experience

Explore Moray’s enormous circular terraces and walk through farmland to Maras, with views stretching across the Sacred Valley to the snowcapped Andes complemented by a tasting devoted to Peru’s extraordinary native tubers, including potatoes, oca, and mashua—paired with local sauces, regional flavors, and several varieties of oca wine.

Life in a Quechua Community

Our activities will depend upon the season and what is taking place in the community that day. This is not meant to be a staged performance with everyone conveniently waiting for our arrival. It is an opportunity to listen, participate respectfully, share a meal, and better understand a way of life rooted in the Andes.
