Grand Canyon

South Rim Adventures

GUIDED DAY HIKES & MULTI-NIGHT  ADVENTURES

Grand Canyon South Rim Adventure offer walks and hikes on some of the best trails in the entire Park. Though the visitors areas on the South Rim garner the most attention and tourist traffic, 6,000,000 + people, there are still some hidden gems within the park and the only way to see them is by foot, on a trail below the rim. The key words here are "hidden gems." If you have tons of time and are an expert active adventure planner, you can discover some of them on your own. Grand Canyon is 277 miles long and 10 - 18 miles wide. Or, if time is more of an issue or your outdoors adventure planning skills or planning energy is in short supply, then you can experience it under the care and guidance of a professional Walking Connection trip planner and trail guide. Either way, we'll help you navigate the crowded visitors areas, lead you through the maze of Grand Canyon opportunities, and show you why this canyon is so GRAND!

We offer:

Self-drive Stays & Adventures - 3-Day/2-Nights - Yavapai Lodge (Located Inside The Park). Meet at Grand Canyon.

Minimum of 2 People with the same hiking ability....

Private Family Holidays and Active Adventures - 4

Let our

rim It’s sometimes referred to as the “other” Grand Canyon, because of the 6,000,000+ people who visit the park, less than 10% of them come here. Though that is an amazing percentage, The Walking Connection will take you to places where less than 1% of the visitors to the Park ever set foot!

The trails we walk and hike are far different that anywhere else in Grand Canyon National Park. Though rugged and sometimes challenging (only if you want), they offer peaceful, spectacular and scenic views seen no where else on Earth. Your first short walk from your cabin downhill to Bright Angel Point offers one of the most spectacular views in the entire park! A warmup walk along the Transept Trail from the main lodge to the campground store not only offers close up views of the Canyon, it can end with an soft ice cream cone if you chose. We feature longer hikes on Widforss and Uncle Jim's Trail, and for those seeking more adventure, a hike down the North Kaibab Trail will challenge even the most well-seasoned outdoors enthusiasts.

You can walk and hike the North Rim with anyone, so what makes The Walking Connection's North Rim Adventure special? In a word, "people!" Start with hosts, Jo Ann and Gene Taylor. They are co-founders of the organization and have been leading adventures in more than 30+ countries around the world! Next, meet some traveling members that have gone on this very trip for more than 10 consecutive years. There will be new faces with well-worn hiking boots, smiling faces with brand new boots; ALL are welcoming and friendly adventurers just looking to share a fun few days in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

We'll  welcome you with a hosted pizza party and we’ll celebrate new-found and old friendships in Walking Connection style, with a sunset toast and dessert party under a million stars! You're invited to come hike Grand Canyon's North Rim with us!

Trip 2- Grand Canyon South Rim Adventure

Day1-

We get right down to business from the very start. Your first night in phoenix begins with a comfortable nights stay at one of Phoenix’s premium hotels, and a meet and greet with your guide team. If you’re getting hungry there are several options close to your accommodations that can fill you up, and get fueled for your next day of adventure.

Day2-

We will be transporting you from the hotel to the Grand Canyon, along the way your Driver/ Guide will be showing you the sights of Arizona. We make a few stops along the way. A 2 hour lunch break and sight seeing opportunity in Historic uptown Sedona, AZ where your guide will point out some of the restaurants in the area, as well as where to shop for South West themed trinkets, souvenirs, and jewelry. If you want to enjoy something a little sweeter there are ice cream parlors, coffee shops, and candy stores along the main strip. Upon leaving Sedona, and filling up for Gas at Flagstaff, it’s off to our final destination for the day, Grand Canyon. You’ll have a chance to take a look at the hike that has been organized for you by making a trip to the Grand Canyon Visitors Center, and you’ll get your first full look at the Canyon with a stop at Mather Point Overlook. From there you’ll continue on to your accommodations at Yavapai East Lodge, where you’ll have access to all the creature comforts and an amazing location to view early morning, and late night wildlife. After you’re all settled and organized, we will be regrouping for dinner at one of the local favorites for a Buffett dinner to get you filled up, and fueled up for the big hike.

Day3-

Hike Day, the day all your effort, and patience has brought you to. You’ll start with breakfast at the lodge dining area, followed by a pick up of trail lunches. From there you’ll drive over to the Bright Angel Trailhead, and go through a debrief before descending into the Canyon. Your hike will last about 8 hours and cover close to 9 miles round trip. As you descend into the canyon you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the history, geology, and biology from plants to animals that make up the canyon. You’ll learn about how the trail was first used, and who had built it, and what inspired the remaining trails to be developed. The drama that unfolded before the Canyon was established, and the people responsible for such a development. As you hike back out you’ll have an opportunity for pictures and photo ops galore. After Your hike it’s back to the lodge for a quick rest, and clean up. Then you’ll be off to dinner for a celebration of your efforts and a chance to share in the success and accomplishments of you and your fellow hikers.

Day4-

This will be an early wake up call, just how early depends on the Sun schedule. You’ll have the opportunity to see one of the Canyons most notable moments: Sunrise over the Grand Canyon. It’s definitely a sight worth seeing and experiencing and you won’t want to miss it, no matter how early you get up. After a chance to take some photos and wake up with the Canyon, it’s back to the lodge to grab a quick breakfast and pack up for the Drive back to Phoenix to complete your experience and adventure with The Walking Connection and your Grand Canyon team.

Our final hike along the Slieve League Cliffs is possibly the most impressive.

The cliffs at Slieve League are some of the highest in Europe - three times the height of the Cliffs of Moher in the south. Hike in the footsteps of pilgrims of a time gone by, and follow the ancient Pilgrim’s Path. Impressive from a historic perspective, you’ll also drink in terrific views of the Atlantic Ocean, the mountains of Sligo and the shimmering Donegal Bay. Meet locals such as tweed-makers still practicing their craft on a traditional handloom.

After saying goodbye to the windy Slieve League cliffs, enjoy a celebratory farewell dinner. (B,L,D)
