Highlights
Are you looking
for a unique vacation this summer? An experience
that combines an inspiring mountain wilderness with pampered
relaxation and exquisite food? An experience where you set
your own pace while learning about the environment as you
explore? What about interesting company? Looking to share
stories of discovery with like-minded people? You can do
all of this and more. Heli-Hiking caters to the rank
beginner as well as the seasoned mountain veteran. AND
WE WILL BE THERE TO TAKE CARE OF ALL OF THE DETAILS!
The Bobbie Burns
range takes its name from the great Scottish poet.
“Gie me ae spark o’ Nature’s fire,”
he wrote, “That’s a’ the learning I desire.”
In the 1880's, prospectors searched the area for gold.
They instead found rich deposits of silver. Mountaineers
have only touched the edges of the Bobbie Burns area with the
first espeditions being for survey puposes in the early 1900's.
Very few people other than Heli-Hikers have ever set foot on
these remote mountains, some of which remain unnamed today.
"If you
haven't gone Heli-Hiking, you haven't lived!"
- M.S., 2008
Your choice
is only on how hard or easy YOU want to hike! We
can do anything from a gentle, flower-rich hike, ideal for
beginners, to a moderate meadowy hike with three fine lakes
along the way up to Bunny Buster peak, surrounded by awe-striking
views of the Rockies to a sterling outing that works up
from he canyon to a series of plateaus lavished with wildflowers
and great views of the immense Zilmer Glacier. And we are
there all along the way to make sure that this is the vacation
of your dreams!
In the Burns we walk, hike
and climb in the Selkirk and the Purcell mountains with both
ranges offering a great variety of terrain for you to enjoy.
Here are four outstanding samples of the 47 or so Bobbie Burns
hikes:
International Basin
- We begin at timberline and follow a series of alpine benches
up to a superb high lake, graced with tremendous views of the
Carbonate Glacier. Interesting traces of the Bobbie Burns’
gold and silver mining history abound on this full-day hike.
Rollercoaster
- Great views to the west on a half-day hike through flowery
meadows. This fine hike can be combined with a visit to beautiful
Hume Lakes for a robust full-day outing.
Crystalline Pass
- Many variations grace this half- or full-day hike in varied
timberline terrain: everything from meadow strolling to boulder-hopping
and some steep ups on glacial moraine. Vigorous elevation gains
and losses through different geologic zones.
Anthea’s
- A half-day, resoundingly alpine hike along a goat trail up
to a high ridge, with great views of the onrad Glacier, looking
down at towering ice needles and into looming crevasses.
