On The Rim
The Greenway Trail |
|
|
|
|
| Wide, paved
& well marked. |
Close to the Village &
Visitors Center. |
Winding Trail along the
eastern rim. |
The trail is close to the
road and park shuttle. |

The Rim Trail |

edge. |
Closer to the edge. |
Winding trail on uneven
and rocky terrain. |
Challenging hike with awesome
views. |
Into The Canyon
The South Kaibab, Hermits & Dripping
Spring Trails |
|
|
|
|
| Wider &
well marked. |
The trail flattens out
a bit at our terminus allowing a bit of break before the
hike up. |
This is a flatter section
of what becomes a very steep trail. |
The is the view from the
trail head. |
| Hiking this trail involves miles
of switchbacks such as those pictured here. The top of the
trail is the most difficult -- it is also when people will
be the most tired! |
|
|
|
|
| What hikes
down... |
...must hike up! |
The trail follows this
ridge. It is more of a challenge than it looks. |
This is the flatest portion
of the trail! |
|
|
|
|
|
| The rocky
unmaintained path leads to the top. |
The only level spot on
the trail is the lower deck at our terminus at Santa Maria
Springs. |
This trail goes straighter
up the canyon wall without as many switchbacks. This makes
it steeper. |
From Santa Maria and Dripping
Springs, this is the hike up! |
|
|
|
|
|
| This portion
traverses a STEEP wall. This is typical of Hermits &
Dripping Springs. |
This steep portion of the
trail is typical of the hike up. Go Slow! |
This is a typical portion
of upper part of the Hermits Trail. |
This is a longer view -
Steep & very difficult. |
Into The Canyon
(The Hike Leader MUST provide
special approval to hike this trail).
The Grandview Trail |
|
|
|
|
|
This is a relatively flat
part of the trail! It gets VERY STEEP and the stairs become
much higher! |
This is a sample view of
the staircase up the Grandview! |
This is typical section
of the trail, not as steep as most other parts. |
The trail here follows
the ridge of the canyon wall. VERY STEEP, NARROW! |
Into The Canyon
(A great alternative trail AFTER
a Greenway or Rim Trail hike).
The Bright Angel Trail |
|
|
|
|
|
Wide &
well marked. This is a great optional hike extension for
Rim and Greenway hikers to experience the canyon under the
rim. |
Winding Trail that is shared
with Grand Canyon Mules. |
Close to the Village &
Visitors Center. Just a short walk down this trail yields
fantastic views! |
This the Canyon's most
popular trail. It is in the heart of the Village.
